Success, a scanned mandala. When painting, [1] I never know what will transpire, the painting just evolves and only when it is completed does it provide a story that unfolds, this is an interesting one to share.
This mandala was for a Christian friend in the USA. When it was completed I saw the golden butterfly on the cross. I could also see the sacred golden ankh and the fruit. While painting it, I felt a strong connection with the Coptic Church in a past life, and I linked into the Greek Church and the Greek Islands. I asked which Island? I was given Samos.
Samos is the birth place of the Greek philosopher and mathematician Pythagoras, the philosopher Epicurus, and the astronomer Aristarchus of Samos. Source links states that Aristarchus was the first known individual to propose that the Earth revolves around the sun. [3] The Island is also well known for its wine.
This was a pleasant surprise because the person that the mandala was for is well into numbers. His past life on the island of Samos, is his link to numbers. So what else do we have on Aristarchus of Samos? He lived 310 BC-230BC and he identified the 'central fire' with the sun. Hence the sun surrounds the image of the mandala. It is written that he was influenced by Philolaus of Croton. 'The astronomical ideas were often rejected in favor of geocentric theories of Aristotle and Ptolemy.'
The heliocentric theory was successfully revived nearly 1800 years later by Copernicus, after which Johannes Kepler and Isaac Newton gave the theoretical explanation based on laws of physics, namely Kepler's laws for the motion of planets and Newton's laws on gravitational attraction and dynamics.[4]
The Vatican library has preserved two ancient manuscripts with estimates of the length of the year. The only ancient scientist listed for two different values is Aristarchus. It is now suspected that these are among the earliest surviving examples of continued fraction expressions. The most obvious interpretations can be computed from the manuscript numbers. [5]
It written that Aristarchus invented two sundials, one hemispherical, the so-called scaphion, the other plane. [6]
I also discovered that the golden butterfly is a Christian symbol of resurrection. [2]
Gold and orange together is also reminiscent of the vesak energies of Christ and Buddha energies together that usually relate to the month of May. We then have the turquoise that is also about transformation and the thymus of 'I ACCEPT'.
I shall call this the 'Aristarchus mandala.' Although it has been sent to the friend that it was for. I know that he won't mind me sharing it with you.
